I am really excited to have Brittany tell her story for two reasons:

1. She is a GREAT example showing how skinny does not always mean you are a fit as you can be.
2. She is so excited to pay fitness forward that she joined my team of riders who are joining hands (hooves) to reach more riders who are interested in getting fit to ride better.

So check out Brittany, in her own words:

I feel like I need to start out by saying that I never knew I wanted to a boot camp, and I really didn’t know how badly I needed it. After all, I was the “skinny” and “small” girl so why would I need to work out or worry about what I was eating? I was active (or so I thought), I rode my horse five days a week, worked full time, was a full time grad school student so I definitely didn’t think I had the time to work out. I certainly didn’t have the energy to workout either.

My journey with Leah started when I signed up for her clean eating challenge. I have always been curious about nutrition and how the foods we eat affect our bodies. This challenge changed my whole idea of who I thought I was and how in shape I was (or wasn’t)! After the 14 days I had more energy, was less bloated, and overall felt better. I wanted and was craving more so Leah and I chatted about doing boot camp.

We chose PiYo as my program of choice because it is low impact/high intensity and great for riders. Unlike some people, I did not go into boot camp with the goal to lose weight, however I wanted to tone what I already had. So many people that I talked to about it told me I was “silly” or “wasting my time and money.” They could not have been more wrong!! Working out gave me extra confidence, increased flexibility, leaner muscles and crazy amounts of energy! In addition, I found that I was having a more positive outlook on life in general.

Not only were the workouts awesome I loved the fact that Chalene Johnson kept them fun. I have had a hard time in the past working out at home because you listen to the same person teaching the same routine and it becomes redundant…not with Chalene! She created PiYo with high energy that makes you want to give it your all. In addition, the accountability group that you get is wonderful! I think that is the main thing that kept me going, seeing these other wonderful ladies doing this with me! It was nice to share our struggles and successes. Lastly, some of the ladies in my bootcamp have become my friends and we chat all the time, which I honestly was not expecting.

My 60 day PiYo bootcamp gave me amazing results and helped me to realize that the number on the scale is not the most important factor. When I started bootcamp (did I mention it was over the holidays?) I weighed 137.4 pounds and 60 days later I only weighed 136.4 pounds. However, don’t let that scare you off from doing this! I lost 4.5 inches on hips and 2.5 inches on my waist, I couldn’t believe it!! Overall, it is worth the time, energy, and money to invest in yourself! At the end of the day you are the only one who can change your life and your health and fitness are one thing that you have total control over. PiYo, bootcamp, and Leah changed my life and my idea of fitness!
